Global business Example 3
The article “Trade Goings-On: U.S.-UK Draft Agreement, New Book, and Peter Navarro's Conversion” illustrates how absolute advantage plays out in this new economic environment and how countries can not be good at everything and how the new trade policies, such as the new steel and aluminum tariffs, made by President Donald Trump could affect that. Donald Trump's policy is a protectionist effort to keep labor-intensive assembly jobs in America which has multiple consequences to the American and Global economies. The article highlights how America should focus on their absolute advantage such as capital-intensive technology, aircraft, and services. While countries like China focus on mostly labor-intensive assembly and low-skilled manufacturing. This specialization will reduce the opportunity cost and save each country billions of dollars. This article is an excellent modern day example of comparative advantage and how countries policies can affect that.
