Rolls Royce violates FCPA
Rolls Royce had to pay the United states $170 million in part of a global fine of $800 million from an investigation from United Kingdom and Brazilian officials which Rolls Royce bribed government officials in exchange for government contracts. For more than a decade in the years of 200-2013 they resorted to bribes to get a competitive advantage. They paid in total of $35 million through third parties to foreign officials to obtain confidential information and be awarded contracts. The countries that were involved were Thailand, Brazil, Kazakhstan, Iraq, Angola and Azerbaijan. The company had to pay the United States 195,498,880 which the payment from th conviction from an investigation into its Brazilian briberies lowered it to $170 million to the United States.A number of factors contributed to the departments criminal resolution including the fact that Rolls Royce did not disclose any information until the SFO had initiated an inquiry and that the corruption and bribery spanned 12 different countries
